Paragon Ceramic Industries Ltd (PCIL) believes in “Business integrated with Environmental and Social responsibilities” without which, business is neither ethical nor legal.
That is why PCIL has invested a lot to keep the working environment safe and secure. We have achieved SAC HIGG Score in 2017. Our score in Social was 58.2% (2017) Assessment by H&M and Environment was 32% Assessment by H&M.
Even though ceramic industry does not create hazardous byproducts, protecting the environment from any harmful waste material of the factory’s production process encouraged the sustainability team to start a number of initiatives that not only save precious resources of the country but also that it is cost effective and to keep the environment from harm’s way. The focus was therefore to incorporate the 3 Rs – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle into all sections of the industry.
Some of the initiatives include:
(a) Using energy efficient technology,
(b) Reusing treated water,
(c) Harvesting rain-water,
(d) Reusing utility water, and
(e) Recovering heat for reuse.
At PCIL, waste-water from the ETP is reused for production as also other types of uses like daily toilet flushing of 1700 workers in the premises, gardening, washing/cleaning of transport and other heavy equipment, etc, thus saving almost 10 million litres of fresh underground water per year. The 250,000 square feet roof top rain water harvesting system is used for washing and other purposes, saving approximately 8 million litres of fresh underground water every year.
The Management and all who work at PCIL are committed to the care of the environment and prevention of pollution.
The organization ensures that all its activities are carried out in conformity with the relevant environmental legislation and the requirements of the Directorate of Environment, Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
PCIL operates processes, which are prescribed under Red Category (serial 14), Schedule–1, The Environment Conservation Rules, 1997 of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, and observes the requirements.
The factory management is committed to the prevention of pollution and of continual improvement. It seeks to minimize creation of waste, promote recycling, reduce energy consumption, reduce harmful emissions and, where possible, to work with suppliers who themselves have sound environmental policies.
An essential feature of the environmental management system is a commitment to improving environmental performance. This is achieved by setting annual environmental improvement objectives and targets which are regularly monitored and reviewed. The objectives are publicized throughout the factory and the entire staff is committed to their achievement.
In order to ensure achievement of the above commitments, PCIL has set up an environmental management system, which satisfies the requirements of ISO.
This policy and the obligations and responsibilities required by the environmental management system have been communicated to all employees. The policy is available to the public on request.
